Who Am I?

Answer: Northwestern Salamander (Ambystoma gracile)

Northwestern Salamander

Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife

The northwestern salamander is the most common kind of salamander found in forests in the Lower Mainland. It spends most of its time underground in burrows, and only really comes out in the spring and the fall.

King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks

While it is really hard to catch a glimpse of an adult salamander, you might find their eggs in nearby creeks. Look for egg masses underwater in the early spring. They look like balls of jelly and are about the size of a baseball. A few salamanders have been spotted in Stanley Park.
