Coyote Toe Pad
Coyotes are active animals that leave plenty of tracks behind. Each paw has four toe pads and a heel pad. Paw prints are similar in size to a medium-sized dog's. Usually only the two middle nails will leave a mark. Dog prints are usually rounder than coyote prints, and all four nail prints are visible. While at a trot or run coyotes place their smaller hind paws in the prints left by their larger front paws, leaving a straight track in the sand, mud, or snow.
Coyote front paws have slightly larger outer toes. Only the 2 inner toes show claws. Coyote tracks are roughly the same size as those of a medium-sized dog.
